Lord Sri Hari
No one in this universe is endowed with all virtues except Sri Hari alone —
He who composed the great epic “Gita”
Standing on the battlefield of Kurukshetra in the Mahabharata, transcending time itself.
In the midst of the battlefield, when Arjuna refused to fight,
The Supreme Lord, Bhagavan Sri Krishna, addressed Arjuna and said:
“O Partha, do you know why this war is necessary?
And why so much bloodshed is needed?
If you are truly unwilling to fight this great war, then I Myself shall fight it.
Know this — I Myself have created this entire universe of moving and non-moving beings.
By subduing the sinful and the wicked, I shall re-establish Dharma upon this earth.
Know this — to protect Dharma, I incarnate on this earth age after age.
I have taken incarnations many times before and have fought,
And by destroying the irreligious and the wicked,
I have re-established Dharma on earth again and again.
So that the asuras may not become immortal,
I, through trick, strength, and strategy, snatched the pot of nectar from their hands.
In the form of Matsya, I saved the earth from the great deluge.
As Kurma, I incarnated and bore Mount Mandara on My back during the churning of the ocean.
As Varaha, I rescued the earth from the hands of the demon Hiranyaksha.
As Nrisimha, I killed Hiranyakashipu, My eternal enemy, to protect My supreme devotee Prahlada.
As Vamana, I shattered the pride of King Bali,
And with My three steps I reclaimed the three worlds — Svarga, Martya, and Patala.
As Parashurama, I rid the earth of Kshatriyas many times and established justice.
Having incarnated as the ideal man, Rama, I killed Ravana, the king of Lanka,
And established the ideal Rama Rajya.
In the city of Mathura, I killed My uncle Kamsa and protected the entire Yadu dynasty.
You know, even in My childhood I killed many asuras and demons like Putana and sent them to the abode of Yama.
I subdued the serpent Kaliya, freed the waters of the Yamuna from poison, and made all of Gokul fearless.
Before this war of the Mahabharata began, I killed My mighty enemy Shishupala.
So that you may be invincible in this war, I had Jarasandha killed by the hands of your elder brother, the mighty Bhima.
I have already taken away Karna’s armor and earrings.
In this war, no one except Ashwatthama can cause you ultimate harm.
Even though elder brother Balarama will not take part in this war,
Do not be the least bit worried about that.
Rise, O Partha, take up your divine Gandiva bow.
Do not be afraid seeing the vast army of the Kauravas.
Prepare for battle.
I am the charioteer of your chariot.
Before you, it is I who shall be pierced by arrows.
It is your duty to protect Me from all the strikes of arrows.
But, O Partha —
Look, the victory flag of our chariot is being held by the mighty Hanuman himself with his own hands.
Know that our victory in this great battle is certain.
O Partha, place complete faith in Me; you shall never be defeated in this war.
I am the Almighty Supreme Lord, the master of creation, preservation, and destruction.
I am the creator of this universe. I create and I destroy.
In Dvapara Yuga, I have incarnated again.
Therefore, understand My purpose:
“Yada yada hi dharmasya glanir bhavati Bharata
Abhyutthanam adharmasya tadatmanam srijamyaham.
Paritranaya sadhunam vinashaya cha dushkritam
Dharma samsthapanarthaya sambhavami yuge yuge.”
O Partha, O child, behold My universal form.
During this conversation between Lord Sri Krishna and Arjuna,
The soldiers and commanders of both armies
Were mere mute, deaf spectators,
Their entire consciousness and power forgotten,
Bound in the web of Maya of Lord Sri Krishna.
Yet, even the Lord Himself could not escape
A mother’s pained lament and her terrible curse,
As a result of His own karma.
Gandhari’s piercing question to the Lord was:
“O Almighty Supreme Lord Sri Krishna,
Could You not have stopped this great war if You had wished?”
Hearing Gandhari’s thunderous question, the Almighty Lord Sri Krishna remained silent.
By Gandhari’s curse, the entire Yadu dynasty was destroyed along with its lineage.
And with the death of Lord Sri Krishna, the entire city of Dwaraka was submerged and destroyed by the sea.
Earlier, in Treta Yuga, Sri Hari incarnated on this mortal plane as Maryada Purushottama Rama,
And, to keep the word of His father Dasharatha,
He went into exile in the forest for fourteen years.
When Ravana, in disguise, abducted Mother Sita,
With the help of the vanara army He killed Ravana along with his clan,
Freed the earth from sin once again,
And established Rama Rajya in the city of Ayodhya.
